CBI apprehends persons over bribery case at DCGI office, role of Joint Drug Controller under scanner

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday apprehended some persons at the office of the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) in connection with a Rs three lakh alleged bribery case in which the role of Joint Drugs Controller S Eswara Reddy is under scanner, officials said.

The CBI team, after getting inputs about exchange of bribery, allegedly carried out trap operation in which some persons were apprehended, they said.

The searches were conducted as part of this operation, they said.

Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) is the head of department of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization of the Government of India responsible for approval of licences of specified categories of drugs such as blood and blood products, IV fluids, vaccines, and sera in India. Drugs Controller General of India, comes under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.DCGI also sets standards for manufacturing, sales, import, and distribution of drugs in India.
